In the exhibition WELCOME STRANGER, the miniature exhibition space Lemme is understood as a house. The works on display by seven Swiss and international artists address aspects of domesticity. Within this framework, the exhibition focuses on the relationship between the intimate sphere and the public space. In doing so, the location of this “house” as a vitrine in public space is of importance on the one hand, and on the other hand its geographical location in the Rhone Valley, an alpine area between rurality and urbanity. WELCOME STRANGER includes crossovers that play with connotations of the vernacular and the folkloric, of art and decoration, of the rural and the urban, of belonging and strangeness. They are hybrids that resist categorisations and affirm the complexity of spaces and identities.
